Wellington Arch, Winter
A wet and windy, winter day in London. A break in the clouds adds extra drama to the bronze statue on Wellington Arch. Originally an oversized equestrian statue of Wellington stood on top but was removed in 1883 when the Arch was moved to it’s present position at the top of Constitution Hill (Hyde Park Corner). The bronze statue we now see features a figure of peace descending from heaven. It was presented in 1912 in memory of Edward VII. The Arch once housed the smallest police station in London.
