Wellington Arch, Winter
A wet and windy, winter day in London. A break in the clouds adds extra drama to the bronze statue on Wellington Arch. Originally an oversized equestrian statue of Wellington stood on top but was removed in 1883 when the Arch was moved to it’s present position at the top of Constitution Hill (Hyde Park Corner). The bronze statue we now see features a figure of peace descending from heaven. It was presented in 1912 in memory of Edward VII. The Arch once housed the smallest police station in London.

Out of Regent Street
London coming to life in early evening, looking west, with traffic pouring out of Regent Street into Piccadilly Circus. The rain has now passed but the wet road reflects the confusion of colour from illuminated advertising hoardings. On the far right a taxi-cab eases its way out of Glasshouse Street

Sun Over Westminster
This view is from the Hungerford Bridge, looking towards Westminster. In the late 19th century Claude Monet painted his famous views of the Houses of Parliament, it is said from his room at the Savoy Hotel. His painting shows the effect of sunlight behind Westminster through the fog. Today’s clear skies give a brighter view of sun reflecting off the Thames. The boat on the right is the Tattershall Castle, formerly a passenger ferry and now a bar, moored to the embankment.

Two Girls and a Bike
It’s a warm afternoon in Trafalgar Square in late summer. The sun is low, filtering through the fountain, making the water seem to glow. Tourists relax in the sun on the steps of the National Gallery and two girls take a break.
